Understanding Your Bill
Your bill is calculated on the number of kilowatt-hours you use in a billing cycle (generally from month-end to month-end).
- Your meter will be read just before the end of the month.
- Bills arrive in the mail around the 5th day of the month.
- Payment is due upon receipt. If the current balance is not paid by the 25th of the month (postmark will constitute payment date), a late charge of one and one-half percent (1.5%) per month of the past due amount will be added to the amount of the bill.

Current Bill Information terms
Basic Service Charge is a cooperative members equal share of our fixed costs to deliver power. It is a fixed minimum monthly charge that accounts for the majority of the Cooperative’s investment in poles, wires, transformers and equipment to provide members with electric service. The charge supports fleet, facility and customer service functions such as outage response, line maintenance, right-of-way clearing, member services support and administrative responsibilities.
kWh Charge is based on kilowatt hours (kWh) consumed during the statement read dates and is multiplied by the current energy rate to calculate the charge. Kilowatt-hour (kWh) is a measurement of electricity used. One (1) kWh is equal to 1,000 watts used continuously for 1 hour. For example, a 100-watt light bulb burning for 10 hours uses 1 kWh. The higher the watt rating on electrical devices, the more electricity it uses.
Power Cost Adjustment is an amount per kilowatt-hour that will either be added to, or subtracted from your bill each month. This is determined by how much ACEC has to pay its power supplier for the energy our members use each month. ACEC includes a fixed amount of power costs into the energy rates our members pay. When the actual cost ACEC pays varies each month from the amount we build into our rates, we charge or refund the difference to our cooperative members.
Demand Charges are found on certain ACEC rates. Demand, measured in kilowatts (kW), calculates the amount of energy flowing through your equipment at one point in time. The more kW a members’ equipment draws at that one point in time, the larger our equipment (transformer, meter, and wires) must be for your electric service. If you have a Demand Charge on your bill, it will be the maximum amount of electric current your service used during any 15-minute period of time during the billing month, times a dollar amount per kW.
Miscellaneous Charges include security lights, Evergreen Power, RECare pledge, internet service(s) and state and local option taxes.
